COMMERICAL FINISHING SUPERINTENDENT

G.A. West & Company is seeking a Commercial Finishing Superintendent/Project Manager to assist in commercial construction within our industrial arena, i.e., administrative buildings, MCC construction, maintenance buildings, training buildings, and assorted other commercial structures within the industrial environment. This is a long-term opportunity based out of the Mobile, Alabama area but will require the ability and willingness to travel.

Responsibilities:

  • Participates in and supports the execution of the activities associated with development and new construction projects by reviewing blueprints and specifications, inspecting work and overseeing crew to ensure specifications and safety measures are met, and troubleshooting and resolving issues to ensure an on-time and on-budget completion of work.
  • Assists with the project budget by reviewing, reconciling, and approving vendor and contractor invoices, reviewing and analyzing financial statements and spending, reporting financial resource needs and issues, and complying with the Company’s policies and procedures related to budgeting.
  • Reviews and adheres to the project timetable and completion schedule by prioritizing tasks, accounting for anticipated and unanticipated delays due to weather or changes to specifications and plans and makes recommendations to resolve delay issues.
  • Monitors work performed at the construction site by tracking manpower, inspecting completed work for compliance with safety standards and plan specifications, adjusting staffing levels as needed to stay on schedule and within budget, and addressing and resolving issues that impede progress.
  • Communicates with key business leaders to provide updates on the progress of construction projects by preparing routine reports and other communications, and responds to requests for information, concerns, or questions about specific aspects of assigned projects in a timely fashion.
  • May assist in assembling the onsite construction team by selecting and assigning team members, engaging contractors and sub-contractors, and by managing their performance in accordance with Company policies, values, and business practices.
  • Completes various human resources, financial, administrative, and other reports and analysis, and performs other duties as assigned or as necessary.

 

Candidate must possess the following, at a minimum:

  • 10+ years’ experience in planning, scheduling, supervising, soliciting, and managing specific trade partners required for all aspects of the work, including underground utilities installation, storm water installation, general site work, curb & gutter, sidewalks, roadways, slabs on grade, pre-engineered metal building installation, masonry work, hollow metal installation, glazing, drywall, electrical, plumbing, fire control systems, acoustical ceilings, HVAC, floor, wall and ceiling finishes, along with painting and millwork.
  • Pertinent experience in one of the specific commercial disciplines, such as carpentry, metal framing, or installation of pre-engineered metal buildings is preferred. Minimum experience requirement of 10 years may be offset by a degree in the field of engineering or building science.
  • Safety is a core value, and training will be provided for selected applicant
  • Software knowledge of MS Office suite and specific excel knowledge minimal requirement
  • Scheduling, estimating, and NavisWorks software instruction/training will be provided.

 

This is a salaried position and salary amount depends on experience. G.A. West & Company offers health, dental and supplemental insurance, granted paid time off, 401k with a match.
