Creola, AL | PROJECT CONTROLS
G.A. West & Company is seeking a Project Controls Director for a full-time, long-term opportunity in Creola, Alabama.
The Project Controls Director is responsible for directing the Project Controls and Schedule support for major industrial construction projects and pursuits. The successful candidate will provide project control management to include project reporting, cost controls and analysis, estimating responsibilities, schedule development and monitoring, change impact identification, earned value management, and oversight of project controls analysts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Experience with setting up and managing Project Controls functions on large industrial projects.
- Develop, interpret, and execute corporate objectives and standards applicable to project cost and project schedule.
- Capture and disseminate all collected cost data, to provide cost forecasting, cost control, change management, and cost analysis.
- Interact and interlock with the pre-construction team members during project pursuit and baselining. This support will include scheduling functions, schedule development, WBS structures, earned value metrics, manpower curves, tracking, control, analysis, and ongoing recommendations for improvement.
- Manage the project control resources and personnel required to deliver on time reporting for multiple projects, ensuring project controls processes are consistently applied across all projects.
- Provide status reports and related project reporting analyses to company and client management, as per company standards and client requirements.
- Identify problems and communicate with the project team to correct and ensure work is being coordinated between the other departments and offices to meet project requirements.
- Prepare various project controls plans and reports, financial summaries, and related activities for project management on assigned projects.
- Serve as a liaison with core management to coordinate workload and staffing plans, work processes, and procedures.
- Evaluate projects at each stage of development to ensure cost and financial activities of the project team inclusive of ensuring client/contractual obligations have been met.
- Publish estimated plan with anticipated staffing requirements for assigned projects.
- Lead, guide, and direct the preparation required to deliver project controls presentations to internal management and to client, as required.
- Lead, guide, and direct the development and training of assigned personnel and implementation of training programs.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Experience with structuring schedule development, controls, and analysis including in-depth knowledge of Primavera and Microsoft Project, as well as conversion from one to the other
- Ability to identify and establish relevant and timely criteria for Project Controls activities
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to successfully direct and motivate a team inclusive of interacting with client personnel
- Willingness to travel to project site locations as required
- Demonstrated skill with identifying, analyzing, and solving problems
- Advanced knowledge of EPC contracts and construction projects in industrial construction sectors
- Demonstrated ability to work independently on complex project controls issues
- Capability and flexibility to direct a team to handle multiple tasks in restricted timeframes to support project goals

Education and/or Work Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or Construction Management (or experience equivalent)
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in Project Controls
- Thorough knowledge of Primavera scheduling software and Microsoft Project
- Working knowledge of Timberline estimation software or similar
- Knowledge of Project Controls and Project Management systems and processes, including leading schedule processing software, databases, and spreadsheet applications
- Industrial estimation base knowledge, including the proper construction sequence and WBS coding
